The stronger winds and cooler temperatures of autumn may trigger rosacea flare-ups. Manage your rosacea and enjoy the season with some helpful tips:
• Beat indoor heat. Adjust your thermostat to the lowest comfortable setting and use an indoor humidifier to prevent air dryness.
• Combat the wind. Use a scarf to protect your face. For those with ocular rosacea, sunglasses with UV protection may be an option to protect the eyes.
• Keep using sunscreen. Even indirect sun exposure continues as a common rosacea trigger throughout the year.
• Let your coffee cool. Allow heated beverages to cool down before enjoying them. A study found that drinking either hot coffee or hot water caused facial flushing, but the same liquids at room temperature did not.1
• Manage your stress. Take time out of the day to relax. Meditate, or try yoga for a calming workout.
• Take your meds. Be sure to comply with medical therapy prescribed by your doctor.
