Sensitive and easily irritated skin is a common issue for people with rosacea, a chronic disorder affecting more than 16 million Americans and 415 million people worldwide. In NRS surveys, 92% of rosacea sufferers reported burning, stinging or itching skin; 66% named certain skin care or cosmetic products as triggers for rosacea signs and symptoms; and 84% were “very interested” in more guidance on skin care.
The NRS has launched a Seal of Acceptance program to identify gentle skin care and cosmetic products that may be suitable for people with rosacea.
Criteria for Acceptance
Products must be free of ingredients that may cause:
- damaged skin barrier function
- vasomotor instability (flushing)
- unwanted neurosensory stimulation (burning, itching)
Please review the guidelines for approval for further information.
The Application Process
Prospective products will be evaluated by an anonymous, independent panel of dermatologists. An application fee of $1,500 per product will be charged, all of which goes to the review panel. If accepted, there is an annual license fee for the use of the Seal on product packaging and in marketing; please inquire about rates.
To request an application, please fill out this form, or email seal@rosacea.org.
Benefits for Companies
Once accepted, the Seal may be licensed for display on product packaging and promotional materials, conveying the following benefits:
- Competitive advantage
- Third-party credibility
- Products will be listed on a new directory of accepted products on rosacea.org
- Seal of Acceptance program will be promoted by the NRS with a social media campaign and news release
- Goodwill among rosacea patients
