Dr. Robert Walters and colleagues at Duke University recently identified the molecular pathway for flushing caused by niacin, also known as vitamin B3 or nicotinic acid.20 Dr. Noreen Lacey and colleagues at the University College Dublin Clinical Research Centre also found that facial fatty acids play a role in maintaining skin barrier integrity, and found that individuals with subtype 2 (papulopustular) rosacea have an abnormal fatty acid composition.21
