Stress Management is Rosacea Management

Surveys have shown that emotional stress is one of the leading triggers for many rosacea patients. Daily life can be filled with tension and urgent pressures, and it’s important to find time to relax and recover. Here are some tips to help manage stress — or avoid it to begin with.

Find time to meditate. Even for five minutes a day, completely disengaging your thoughts from all worries can help reduce your stress. Try to find a quiet, comfortable place and fend off all distractions. Slowly breathe in and then exhale to release daily tensions. Focus on a simple word or phrase for the duration.

Stretch or do yoga. Low-impact exercises such as yoga, tai chi, and even simple stretching can improve your flexibility and strengthen your core muscles, but they can also help you become more mentally resilient and able to recover from stress. Consider water aerobics if heavy exercise bothers your rosacea.

Improve your work-life balance. We often feel pressure to take on more than we can handle — a sure-fire recipe for stress. Pare down your to-do list by dropping tasks that aren't true necessities. Minimize overtime at work, and make room in your schedule for hobbies and other activities you enjoy. This can enhance your mental, emotional and physical well-being.

Stick with a schedule. Developing a routine and sticking to it (within reason) can go a long way toward reducing the feeling of chaos in one’s life. Doing certain activities, such as taking medications or going to bed, at set times each day promotes a sense of stability and control.

Create some “me” time. Even extroverts need some alone time to recharge. Allow yourself time away from your daily roles, even if it's only a few minutes, to do something you enjoy, such as curling up with a good book or taking a walk.
